2011 SPARTANS

The 2011 edition of the Corvallis High Spartan football team has high expectations for there upcoming season.  A very talented and well respected group of seniors are now gone, but they have left a lasting impression on the underclassmen coming up through the program.  We are returning many starters from last years team and have multiple other athletes ready to fill in and step up to the challenge.  There is a lot of work to be done between now and September 2nd, but with hard work and determination, success will come again in 2011 for the Spartans.

Dear Parents and Players,

I hope that this letter finds you and your family doing well.  I want to take this opportunity to share with you some important information about playing football at Corvallis High School this coming Fall.

The school will provide all the necessary equipment to play, except for cleats.  We wear black cleats at CHS, and molded cleats are the best all around variety for our field.  In order to help build a sense of pride and uniformity, we want our players to wear Corvallis High issued gear as much as possible.  Workout gear will become available throughout the spring and summer.

Spartan Mini Camp -- June 6 –10 and June 11 Passing Tournament

We will conduct our non-padded after school camp on the dates specified above from 3:30pm to 5:30 pm, culminating with a passing tournament on June 11 at South Salem High School from Noon to 5pm.  The camp is not for incoming freshman, but it is highly recommended for current CHS players.  This camp is free of charge and will be held at Spartan Stadium.

Summer Workouts

We will hold strength and conditioning workouts Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 9-10:30 am in the weight room, and on the field, all summer until the moratorium week on August 1.  We will resume workouts on August 8 until Fall Camp starts on August 15.  All players, including freshmen, are strongly encouraged to get involved in our summer workouts.  They are conducted by our coaches, free of charge, and will improve the overall strength and performance of our athletes.

Fall Camp (daily doubles) -- August 15th-19th

We begin the season with daily doubles at Spartan Field from 8am-10am and 6pm-8pm.  Although camp is not required, it is highly recommended that all of our players attend all of the sessions.  The cost is $25, which covers the player’s shirt, shorts, and game socks.  During the week we will be inserting our offensive and defensive schemes, conditioning, and getting cleared for the official start of practice on August 22.  Camp attire will be athletic shorts, shirts, and cleats (no hats, jewelry, or watches).   A registration form will become available, as we get closer to the camp date.

Getting Cleared -- August 17th-19th

You will not be able to start practice until you have been cleared by our athletic department.  It involves filling out the necessary paperwork and paying a fee.  Incoming freshmen, juniors, and kids new to our program, will be required to get a physical and turn in that paperwork as well.  You can pick up physical forms from our athletic office ahead of time and have it done by a doctor, or you can have it done at school for a small fee during the week of August 18.

The fee to play football is $150.  Our goal is to make sure that everyone who wants to play is able to do so regardless of cost.  Please contact Jan Walker in our athletic office at 541- 757-5917 if you are unable to afford the fee.

Practice -- August 22

Our first official week of practice will be from 3:30 to 6:30 and 3:30 to 5:30 in the weeks after.  The first three days of practice will be in helmets and shoulder pads and will be light contact.

Blue and White Scrimmage -- August 27

All of our 10th, 11th, and 12th graders will participate in our annual Blue and White Scrimmage on Saturday, August 27 at 10am.

Parent Meeting -- August 27 (after scrimmage, around 11:30am)

We will have a parent meeting after the Blue and White Scrimmage in the stands at Spartan Field.  It is important that all of our parents attend so that you have an opportunity to learn about our program and ask questions if needed.
